Charitable expenditure
Some charities generate all, or a substantial part, of their income from investments which may have been donated to the charity as endowment or set aside by the charity from its own resources in the past. Such investments usually take the form of stocks and shares but may include other assets, such as property, that are capable of generating income and/or capital growth.
In managing their spending and investments charities need to strike a balance between the needs of future and current beneficiaries. They also need to take account of spending commitments that may stretch over a number of future years. To do this, charities will normally adopt an investment strategy designed to generate both income and capital growth. To maximise returns trustees may commit to investment strategies for several years.
Investments can experience large swings in value so trustees may, in a particular year, decide to realise and spend part of their charity’s capital or to invest part of its income.

Charitable objects
3.1 THE OBJECTS OF THE CHURCH ARE, FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC, TO PROMOTE THE CHRISTIAN FAITH IN THE KINGS CROSS AREA OF LONDON (AND/OR SUCH OTHER AREAS AS THE COUNCIL MAY FROM TIME TO TIME MAY THINK FIT)AND ALLEVIATE SUFFERING ACCORDING TO THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND AND THE VALUES AND TENETS OF THE ANGLICAN COMMUNION SUMMARISED IN RESOLUTION 11 OF THE THIRD LAMBETH CONFERENCE FOLLOWING THE CHICAGO-LAMBETH QUADRILATERAL NAMELY: (I) THE HOLY SCRIPTURE OF THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS, AS 'CONTAINING ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO SALVATION,' AND AS BEING THE RULE AND ULTIMATE STANDARD OF FAITH; (II) THE APOSTLES CREED, AS THE BAPTISMAL SYMBOL; AND THE NICENE CREED, AS THE SUFFICIENT STATEMENT OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH; (III) THE TWO SACRAMENTS ORDAINED BY CHRIST HIMSELF BAPTISM AND THE SUPPER OF THE LORD MINISTERED WITH UNFAILING USE OF CHRIST'S WORDS OF INSTITUTION, AND OF THE ELEMENTS ORDAINED BY HIM; (IV) THE HISTORIC EPISCOPATE, LOCALLY ADAPTED IN THE METHODS OF ITS ADMINISTRATION TO THE VARYING NEEDS OF THE NATIONS AND PEOPLES CALLED OF GOD INTO THE UNITY OF HIS CHURCH.
