Charitable objects
3.1 THE OBJECTS OF THE CHARITY ARE, FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT: A) THE PREVENTION OR RELIEF OF POVERTY; B) THE RELIEF OF SICKNESS AND THE PRESERVATION AND PROTECTION OF HEALTH; C) THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION BY PROVIDING BASIC LITERACY AND NUMERACY EDUCATION TO WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN AREAS WHERE SUCH OPPORTUNITIES ARE DENIED THEM, VOCATIONAL TRAINING, EDUCATION IN DEMOCRATIC PROCESSES, FACILITIES FOR EDUCATION AND SUCH OTHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING AS THE TRUSTEES MAY DETERMINE; D) THE PRESERVATION, PROTECTION AND RESTORATION OF HISTORICAL MONUMENTS, SITES AND ARTEFACTS, ARTS AND CRAFTS; E) THE PROMOTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS (AS SET OUT IN THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND SUBSEQUENT UNITED NATIONS CONVENTIONS AND DECLARATIONS) THROUGHOUT THE WORLD BY ALL OR ANY OF THE FOLLOWING MEANS: (I) MONITORING ABUSES OF HUMAN RIGHTS; (II) OBTAINING REDRESS FOR THE VICTIMS OF HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE; (III) RELIEVING NEED AMONG THE VICTIMS OF HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE; (IV) RESEARCH INTO HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES; (V) PROVIDING TECHNICAL ADVICE TO GOVERNMENT AND OTHERS ON HUMAN RIGHTS MATTERS; (VI) CONTRIBUTING TO THE SOUND ADMINISTRATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS LAW; (VII) COMMENTING ON PROPOSED HUMAN RIGHTS LEGISLATION; (VIII) RAISING AWARENESS OF HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES; (IX) PROMOTING PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS; (X) PROMOTING RESPECT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AMONG INDIVIDUALS AND CORPORATIONS; (XI) INTERNATIONAL ADVOCACY OF HUMAN RIGHTS; AND (XII) ELIMINATING INFRINGEMENTS OF HUMAN RIGHTS; F) THE PROMOTION OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT BY: (I) THE PRESERVATION, CONSERVATION AND THE PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE PRUDENT USE OF RESOURCES; (II) THE RELIEF OF POVERTY AND THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE CONDITIONS OF LIFE IN SOCIALLY AND ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITIES; AND (III) THE PROMOTION OF SUSTAINABLE MEANS OF ACHIEVING ECONOMIC GROWTH AND REGENERATION; AND G) SUCH CHARITABLE PURPOSES FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT AS ARE EXCLUSIVELY CHARITABLE ACCORDING TO THE LAWS OF ENGLAND AND WALES AS THE TRUSTEES MAY FROM TIME TO TIME DETERMINE. THE FOREGOING OBJECTS ARE TO BE CARRIED OUT TO PROTECT OR ASSIST THE VULNERABLE AND TO RELIEVE NEEDS CAUSED BY NATURAL DISASTERS, CONFLICT OR SOCIO-ECONOMIC HARDSHIP. IN FURTHERANCE OF THE OBJECT SET OUT IN PARAGRAPH 3.1(E) BUT NOT OTHERWISE, THE TRUSTEES SHALL HAVE POWER TO ENGAGE IN POLITICAL ACTIVITY PROVIDED THAT THE TRUSTEES ARE SATISFIED THAT THE PROPOSED ACTIVITIES WILL FURTHER THE PURPOSES OF THE CHARITY TO AN EXTENT JUSTIFIED BY THE RESOURCES COMMITTED AND THE ACTIVITY IS NOT THE DOMINANT MEANS BY WHICH THE CHARITY CARRIED OUT ITS OBJECTS. IN THESE OBJECTS: (A) 'THE VULNERABLE' MEANS INDIVIDUALS WHOSE LIFE, LIVELIHOOD, SECURITY OR HEALTH ARE AT RISK OR ARE OTHERWISE DISADVANTAGED; AND (B) 'SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT' MEANS DEVELOPMENT WHICH MEETS THE NEEDS OF THE PRESENT WITHOUT COMPROMISING THE ABILITY OF FUTURE GENERATIONS TO MEET THEIR OWN NEEDS.
