Charitable objects
The Society is established for the public benefit to protect and to improve the quality of life of people living in, working in, or visiting the area comprising Richmond (in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames), in particular by promoting and encouraging: (i) high standards of planning, urban design, architecture, landscaping, conservation, infrastructure and transport; (ii) the conservation and protection of lands, buildings, open spaces, waterways, amenities, features of historic interest and the individual character of localities; (iii) the creation of or improvement to lands, buildings, open spaces, waterways, amenities, features of historic interest and the individual character of localities and the avoidance, removal, or improvement of features that are unsightly or, in the public interest, undesirable; (iv) knowledge of and interest in the matters aforesaid amongst persons concerned with such matters in a professional, legislative or administrative capacity and amongst members of the public generally (including corporate bodies) or any section of the public; (v) a sense of civic pride amongst members of the public generally or in any section of the public generally, and the fostering of community involvement and the capacity to effect necessary change; (vi) the principles and practice of sustainable development.
