The Essex Children's University is a member of the Children's University (CU Trust) which promotes engagement in structured learning activity, outside of the normal school hours, with the aim to broaden social mobility and raise aspiration. Essex CU operates across Essex and more recently in Suffolk too. We work with schools, children and families alongside community learning partners.

Charitable objects
THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE: THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT IN PARTICULAR BY PROVIDING FOR THE EDUCATION, CARE AND RECREATION OF CHILDREN AGED 5 TO 14 YEARS - MAKING FACILITIES AND SERVICES AVAILABLE TO THEM, ESPECIALLY OUT OF SCHOOL HOURS AND IN SCHOOL HOLIDAYS, WITH THE AIMS OF IMPROVING THEIR SOCIAL MOBILITY; RAISING ATTAINMENT AND ASPIRATION; AND IMPROVING THEIR LIFE CHANCES. THE PREVENTION OR RELIEF OF POVERTY FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT IN PARTICULAR BY IMPROVING THE LIFE CHANCES AND CHOICES OF CHILDREN AGED 5 TO 14 YEARS; PROVIDING FACILITIES AND SERVICES FOR THEIR BENEFIT; PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT; RAISING ATTAINMENT AND ASPIRATION; SUPPORTING THEM TO DEVELOP SKILL-SETS; AND BY PROVIDING A GREATER AWARENESS OF CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES. NOTHING IN THIS CONSTITUTION SHALL AUTHORISE AN APPLICATION OF THE PROPERTY OF THE CIO FOR THE PURPOSES WHICH ARE NOT CHARITABLE IN ACCORDANCE WITH [SECTION 7 OF THE CHARITIES AND TRUSTEE INVESTMENT (SCOTLAND) ACT 2005] AND [SECTION 2 OF THE CHARITIES ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 2008]
