THE OBJECTS ARE: 1) TO PROMOTE, FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT, THE RESTORATION, PRESERVATION, IMPROVEMENT, MAINTENANCE AND CONSERVATION OF THE BURIAL GROUND OF ST JAMES’, BENWELL, IN CO-OPERATION WITH THE CHURCH OF ST JAMES. 2) TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC IN THE HISTORY AND HERITAGE OF THE CHURCH OF ST JAMES’, BENWELL, ITS BURIAL GROUND, THE PARISH OF BENWELL AND THE WEST END OF NEWCASTLE AS PLACES OF HISTORIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL INTEREST, IN PARTICULAR BY: • COLLECTING ORAL HISTORIES, PHOTOGRAPHS AND OBJECTS TO ACT AS HISTORICAL RECORDS; • UNDERTAKING ACTIVITIES WHICH ENCOURAGE LOCAL RESIDENTS TO EXPLORE, RESEARCH AND ENGAGE WITH LOCAL HISTORY AND TRADITIONS AND THE LOCAL ENVIRONMENT; • ARRANGING TALKS ON LOCAL HISTORY AND ENVIRONMENT; • PRODUCING PUBLICATIONS, EXHIBITIONS AND FILMS ON HISTORICAL TOPICS AND ENVIRONMENTAL TOPICS; • PROVIDING GUIDED HISTORICAL WALKS AND GUIDED TOURS OF SITES AND PLACES OF HISTORICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL INTEREST; AND • CARRYING OUT RESEARCH INTO THE HERITAGE AND ENVIRONMENT OF THE BURIAL GROUND AND THE WEST END OF NEWCASTLE, THE USEFUL RESULTS OF WHICH WILL BE PUBLISHED FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT.
