It is a place of worship for Theravada Monks from Thailand who practice and teach Buddhism and carry out religious ceremonies, meditation, chanting and activities for the Thai and local communities in Southend on Sea and surrounding areas. The Wat Thai Southend temple supports peaceful coexistence of Buddhist Thai & British culture in society.

TO PROMOTE THERAVADA BUDDHISM FOR THE THAI COMMUNITY AND THE PUBLIC BENEFIT IN THE SOUTHEND ON SEA AREA OF ENGLAND AND BEYOND, IN PARTICULAR, BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY BY THE FOLLOWING MEANS: A) ULTIMATELY ESTABLISHING A PERMANENT TEMPLE WHERE THE DHAMMA CAN BE STUDIED AND TAUGHT AND WHERE MEDITATION CAN BE PRACTICED; B) USING THE TEACHING OF THERAVADA BUDDHISM AND MEDITATION TO BENEFIT THE THAI COMMUNITY AND PUBLIC; C) PROVIDING SUPPORT TO BUDDHIST MONKS AND NON IN THEIR STUDIES AND PASTORAL DUTIES; D) RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS OF THERAVADA BUDDHISM.
