THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE FOR THE PROMOTION OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND PUBLIC HEALTH, AND FOR THE PROTECTION AND PRESERVATION OF HUMAN LIFE, IN PARTICULAR BY: (1) AWARDING GRANTS OR SUPPORTING PROJECTS ENABLING RECIPIENTS TO PROMOTE RESEARCH, DISSEMINATE THE RESULTS OF RESEARCH AND PROVIDE INFORMATION IN ANY MATTERS OF PUBLIC INTEREST WHICH ADDRESS ROAD SAFETY AND SAFE AND SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT INCLUDING AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGY DESIGNED TO ENHANCE SAFETY; THE ADEQUACY OF REGULATION, ENFORCEMENT, VEHICLE ROAD WORTHINESS INSPECTION, INSURANCE COVERAGE, DRIVER TRAINING AND LICENSING; SAFE ROAD DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION; THE PROTECTION AND PRESERVATION OF HUMAN LIFE AND PUBLIC HEALTH FOR DRIVERS, PASSENGERS, MOTORCYCLISTS, CYCLISTS, PEDESTRIANS AND OTHER ROAD USERS; SAFE AND SUSTAINABLE PRACTICE IN ROAD HAULAGE AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT AND SAFE PUBLIC MOBILITY; AND (2) PROMOTING THE IMPROVEMENT OF NATIONAL ROAD SAFETY COUNCILS, FACILITATING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW COUNCILS, AND PROMOTING AND ASSISTING COOPERATION, BOTH WITHIN THE CHOSEN COUNTRIES AND ALSO CROSS-BORDER, BETWEEN ROAD SAFETY COUNCILS AND/OR OTHER ORGANISATIONS WORKING TO PROMOTE SAFE ROADS AND PRESERVE HUMAN LIFE AND PUBLIC HEALTH FOR DRIVERS, PASSENGERS, PEDESTRIANS AND OTHER ROAD USERS; AND (3) PROMOTING IMPROVEMENT IN THE SAFETY OF MOTOR SPORT AND SAFE DRIVING SKILLS; AND (4) CO-OPERATING WITH OTHER CHARITIES, VOLUNTARY BODIES AND STATUTORY AUTHORITIES, PARTICULARLY IN EASTERN EUROPE AND COUNTRIES OF THE SOUTH CAUCASUS, OPERATING IN FURTHERANCE OF THE OBJECTS OR OF SIMILAR CHARITABLE PURPOSES AND EXCHANGING INFORMATION ADVICE WITH THEM.
