Charitable objects
THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 16 TO 25: 1. TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT, IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY BY PROVIDING VARIOUS EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES, PROGRAMMES AND RESOURCES RELATING TO CONSERVATION, SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND PROTECTION OF THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT MEANS “DEVELOPMENT WHICH MEETS THE NEEDS OF THE PRESENT WITHOUT COMPROMISING THE ABILITY OF FUTURE GENERATIONS TO MEET THEIR OWN NEEDS. 2. TO ADVANCE IN LIFE AND RELIEVE THE NEEDS OF YOUNG PEOPLE BY DEVELOPING THEIR SKILLS, CAPACITIES AND CAPABILITIES TO ENABLE THEM TO PARTICIPATE IN SOCIETY AS MATURE AND RESPONSIBLE INDIVIDUALS. NOTHING IN THIS CONSTITUTION SHALL AUTHORISE AN APPLICATION OF THE PROPERTY OF THE CIO FOR THE PURPOSES WHICH ARE NOT CHARITABLE IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 7 OF THE CHARITIES AND TRUSTEE INVESTMENT (SCOTLAND) ACT 2005 AND SECTION 2 OF THE CHARITIES ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 2008.
