The Charity is established for general charitable purposes for the benefit of the inhabitants of Greater London and its Environs, including and in particular Thamesmead and the surrounding areas, and in particular: 1. to advance education; 2. to relieve financial need; 3. to promote health; 4. to promote amateur sport; 5. to promote for the public benefit community safety and the prevention of crime; 6. to relieve unemployment for the public benefit in such ways as may be thought fit, including assistance to find employment; 7. to develop the capacity and skills of the members of the community in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs and to participate more fully in society; and 8. to provide or assist in the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation of members of the community who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances with the object of improving their conditions of life. “Greater London and its Environs” shall mean those Local Authority areas in and around Greater London, as further set out in Annex 1 parts A and B to the Articles, and any successor authorities to those listed in Annex 1.
