1.1 The Objects for which the Trust is established are: 1.1.1 To restore, conserve and maintain the Monastery of St Francis (designed by Edward Welby Pugin in 1866) in the Gorton district of Manchester, being of historical, architectural and constructional merit and to advance the education of the public in those features of its historical, architectural and constructional heritage that exists in and around the said Monastery and its place within Gorton and its surrounding areas; 1.1.2 To further or benefit the residents of the Gorton district of Manchester and its surrounding areas, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together the said residents and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the residents; 1.1.3 To advance the education of the public in general including (but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing) the provision of facilities for education and the education of the public in the creation, enjoyment, appreciation and understanding of the arts through performance, exhibitions and educational programmes; 1.1.4 The relief of unemployment for the benefit of the public in such ways as may be thought fit, including (but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing) providing training opportunities for young people and ex-offenders; 1.1.5 To preserve and protect the health of residents of the Gorton district of Manchester and its surrounding areas by (but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing) providing and assisting in the provision of facilities, support services and equipment not normally provided by the statutory authorities and advancing the education of the public in health care by the provision of classes and other resources devoted to healthcare; 1.1.6 The prevention or relief of poverty in the Gorton district of Manchester and its surrounding areas by (but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing) the provision of assistance to those who are homeless or facing homelessness in the form of advice, employment and education assistance, signposting on issues related to housing and working with other agencies to develop housing solutions for those in necessitous circumstances; 1.1.7 The promotion of equality and diversity for the public benefit by (but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing) advancing education and raising awareness in equality and diversity, promoting activities to foster understanding between people from diverse backgrounds and cultivating a sentiment in favour of equality and diversity; 1.1.8 The promotion of religious harmony for the benefit of the public by (i) educating the public in different religious beliefs including an awareness of their distinctive features and their common ground to promote good relations between persons of different faiths; and (ii) promoting knowledge and mutual understanding and respect of the beliefs and practices of different religious faiths; 1.1.9 Such other exclusively charitable purposes according to the law of England and Wales as the Trustees determine from time to time.
