THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE:- 1. TO ADVANCE THE CHRISTIAN RELIGION IN HARLOW AND THE SURROUNDING VILLAGES FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC THROUGH:- - THE HOLDING OF PRAYER MEETINGS - PUBLIC ACTS OF WORSHIP INCLUDING (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) CIVIC SERVICES AND CELEBRATIONS (E.G. AT EASTER AND CHRISTMAS) - PRODUCING AND/OR DISTRIBUTING LITERATURE ON CHRISTIANITY TO ENLIGHTEN OTHERS ABOUT THE CHRISTIAN RELIGION, - WORKING WITH INDIVIDUAL CHRISTIANS AND CHRISTIAN CHURCHES IN AND AROUND HARLOW TO IMPROVE COOPERATION AND TO DEVELOP A UNITED RESPONSE TO THE NEEDS OF THE TOWN. - PROVIDING AND SUPPORTING CHAPLAINCY SERVICES FOR ORGANISATIONS IN AND AROUND HARLOW 2. TO PROMOTE SOCIAL INCLUSION FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT WITHIN HARLOW AND THE SURROUNDING VILLAGES BY WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LOCAL AUTHORITY AND OTHER CHARITIES AND COMMUNITY ORGANISATIONS TO IDENTIFY AND HELP TO MITIGATE THE REASONS FOR SOCIAL EXCLUSION AND BY PREVENTING PEOPLE FROM BECOMING SOCIALLY EXCLUDED, RELIEVING THE NEEDS OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE SOCIALLY EXCLUDED AND ASSISTING THEM TO INTEGRATE INTO SOCIETY. FOR THE PURPOSE OF THIS CLAUSE 'SOCIALLY EXCLUDED' MEANS BEING EXCLUDED FROM SOCIETY, OR PARTS OF SOCIETY, AS A RESULT OF ONE OF MORE OF THE FOLLOWING FACTORS: UNEMPLOYMENT; FINANCIAL HARDSHIP; YOUTH OR OLD AGE; ILL HEALTH (PHYSICAL OR MENTAL); SUBSTANCE ABUSE OR DEPENDENCY INCLUDING ALCOHOL AND DRUGS; DISCRIMINATION ON THE GROUNDS OF SEX, RACE, DISABILITY, ETHNIC ORIGIN, RELIGION, BELIEF, CREED, SEXUAL ORIENTATION OR GENDER RE-ASSIGNMENT; POOR EDUCATIONAL OR SKILLS ATTAINMENT; RELATIONSHIP AND FAMILY BREAKDOWN; POOR HOUSING (THAT IS HOUSING THAT DOES NOT MEET BASIC HABITABLE STANDARDS; CRIME (EITHER AS A VICTIM OF CRIME OR AS AN OFFENDER REHABILITATING INTO SOCIETY). 3. THE PROMOTION OF EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT BY:- - PROMOTING ACTIVITIES TO FOSTER UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN PEOPLE FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS; - CULTIVATING A SENTIMENT IN FAVOUR OF EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY. 4. THE PREVENTION AND RELIEF OF POVERTY IN HARLOW BY WORKING WITH THE LOCAL AUTHORITY AND OTHER CHARITIES AND COMMUNITY ORGANISATIONS TO IDENTIFY AREAS OF NEED AND TO WORK WITH THOSE ORGANISATIONS IN PROVIDING: GRANTS, ITEMS AND SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS IN NEED AND/OR CHARITIES, OR OTHER ORGANISATIONS WORKING TO PREVENT OR RELIEVE POVERTY.
