3.1 The objects of the CIO (the "objects") are, for the public benefit: 3.1.1 to advance education, and in particular, the education of disadvantaged young people, and to develop the skills, capacities and capabilities of such people to enhance their life chances and enable them to participate fully in society, as independent, mature and responsible individuals; 3.1.2 to advance the education of disadvantaged young people, by funding and disseminating the results of relevant research into pupil behaviour, learning, teaching methods, school and social exclusion, and reintegration; 3.1.3 to promote social inclusion, in particular by preventing disadvantaged young people from becoming socially excluded including (without limitation) by enabling disadvantaged young people to avoid unemployment, and by providing training and support to assist with job interviews and professional training; and 3.1.4 to prevent and/or relieve poverty, in particular amongst disadvantaged young people and/or their families, in particular, but without limitation, where those disadvantaged young people are pupils or former pupils of the Academy schools (as defined in Section 1A of the Academies Act 2010) operated from time to time by Ormiston Academies Trust and situated in London and the surrounding areas. 3.2 In this clause: 3.2.1 "socially excluded" means being excluded from society, or parts of society, as a result of one or more of the following factors: poor educational or skills attainment; unemployment; financial hardship; youth; ill health (physical or mental); substance abuse or dependency including alcohol or drugs; relationship and family breakdown; or crime (either as a victim of crime or as an offender rehabilitating into society) and "social exclusion" shall be construed accordingly.
