THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE: (1) TO RELIEVE THE CHARITABLE NEEDS OF INTERSEX PEOPLE, THEIR CARERS AND THEIR FAMILIES IN SUCH WAYS AS THE TRUSTEES MAY FROM TIME TO TIME DECIDE (2) TO PROMOTE THE EQUALITY OF INTERSEX PEOPLE IN SUCH WAYS AS THE TRUSTEES MAY FROM TIME TO TIME DECIDE. (3) TO PROMOTE THE HUMAN RIGHTS OF INTERSEX PEOPLE (AS SET OUT IN THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND SUBSEQUENT UNITED NATIONS CONVENTIONS AND DECLARATIONS, INCLUDING THE CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD AND THE CONVENTION ON THE ELIMINATION OF ALL FORMS OF DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WOMEN) BY ALL OR ANY OF THE FOLLOWING MEANS: • COMMENTING ON PROPOSED HUMAN RIGHTS LEGISLATION; • RAISING AWARENESS OF HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES; • PROMOTING PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS; • PROMOTING RESPECT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AMONG INDIVIDUALS AND CORPORATIONS. IN FURTHERANCE OF THE ABOVE OBJECTS BUT NOT OTHERWISE, THE TRUSTEES SHALL HAVE POWER TO ENGAGE IN POLITICAL ACTIVITY PROVIDED THAT THE TRUSTEES ARE SATISFIED THAT THE PROPOSED ACTIVITIES WILL FURTHER THE PURPOSES OF THE CHARITY TO AN EXTENT JUSTIFIED BY THE RESOURCES COMMITTED AND THE ACTIVITY IS NOT THE DOMINANT MEANS BY WHICH THE CHARITY CARRIES OUT ITS OBJECTS. IN THESE OBJECTS AND ELSEWHERE IN THIS CONSTITUTION “INTERSEX” REFERS TO PHYSICAL SEX CHARACTERISTICS THAT, IN COMBINATION, FALL OUTSIDE OF BINARY CONCEPTS OF FEMALE AND MALE BODIES, AND “INTERSEX PEOPLE” REFERS TO PEOPLE BORN WITH INTERSEX TRAITS/VARIATIONS OF SEX CHARACTERISTICS (VSC) / DIVERSE OR DIFFERENCES IN SEX DEVELOPMENT (DSD). WHILST THE CIO SUPPORTS THE APPROPRIATION OF THE TERM INTERSEX, IT EMBRACES ALL IDENTITIES THAT PEOPLE WITH INTERSEX TRAITS OR VSC ARE COMFORTABLE WITH. NOTHING IN THIS CONSTITUTION SHALL AUTHORISE AN APPLICATION OF THE PROPERTY OF THE CIO FOR THE PURPOSES WHICH ARE NOT CHARITABLE IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 7 OF THE CHARITIES AND TRUSTEE INVESTMENT (SCOTLAND) ACT 2005 AND SECTION 2 OF THE CHARITIES ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 2008.
