THE PURPOSES OF THE CHARITY ARE: (1) TO ADVANCE EDUCATION AND CULTURE FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC IN PARTICULAR, BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY, BY PROVIDING FOR OR FACILITATING THE PROVISION OF THE DISPLAY OF SUCH ARMS, ANTIQUES AND ARTICLES DE VERTU CONTAINED IN THE WILL OF GILBERT ORMEROD SPENCE ("THE SPENCE COLLECTION"); (2) TO SAFEGUARD, PROTECT, CONSERVE, RESTORE AND OTHERWISE MAINTAIN OR ARRANGE FOR SUCH SAFEGUARDING, PROTECTION, CONSERVATION, RESTORATION AND MAINTENANCE OF THE SPENCE COLLECTION; (3) TO PROCURE THE PROTECTION AND STORAGE OF THOSE PARTS OF TE SPENCE COLLECTION NOT ON PUBLIC DISPLAY, TOGETHER WITH SUCH ITEMS WORTHY OF PRESERVATION OR CONSERVATION AS THE TRUSTEES FROM TIME TO TIME THINK FIT; AND (4) SUBJECT TO THE PURPOSES SET OUT ABOVE, TO CARRY OUT SUCH OTHER CHARITABLE PURPOSES RELATED TO THE SPENCE COLLECTION AS THE TRUSTEES FROM TIME TO TIME IN THEIR DISCRETION DECIDE OR FOR SUCH OTHER CHARITABLE PURPOSES FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PEOPLE OF STOCKTON ON TEES (OR SURROUNDING AREAS) AS THE TRUSTEES MAY DECIDE.
