The organization exists to support, promote and facilitate an annual perambulation of the boundary of the City of Lichfield, on or near the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as commanded by Queen Mary in the Charter of 1553 that separated Lichfield from Staffordshire, making it a separate county with the right to appoint its own Sheriff.
