TO PROMOTE THE PUBLIC BENEFIT IN THE UNITED KINGDOM AND IN PARTICULAR: (1) TO ENCOURAGE HIGH STANDARDS OF TOWN AND COUNTRY PLANNING AND ARCHITECTURE; (2) TO STIMULATE PUBLIC INTEREST IN, AND CARE FOR THE BEAUTY, CHARACTER AND FABRIC OF HISTORIC TOWNS AND VILLAGES AND THEIR SETTINGS; (3) TO UNITE LOCAL AMENITY SOCIETIES AND PARISH AND TOWN COUNCILS IN HISTORIC TOWNS AND VILLAGES; (4) TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC IN THE BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC CHANGES WHICH AFFECT HISTORIC TOWNS AND VILLAGES AND THEIR SETTINGS.
