The Society promotes the study of garden history through the publication of a journal, 'Garden History' and an annual conference, lectures, seminars and visits. The Society promotes the protection and conservation of historic parks, gardens and designed landscapes through a Conservation Committee and a team of Conservation Officers.

Charitable objects
(THE OBJECTS OF THE CHARITY (THE “OBJECTS”) ARE FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT:- 3.1.1 TO PROMOTE THE STUDY OF THE HISTORY OF GARDENS AND GARDENING, LANDSCAPE GARDENING AND HORTICULTURE IN ALL ITS ASPECTS; 3.1.2 TO PROMOTE THE PROTECTION AND CONSERVATION OF HISTORIC PARKS GARDENS AND DESIGNED LANDSCAPES AND TO PROMOTE AND ADVISE ON THEIR CONSERVATION; 3.1.3 TO PROMOTE CGTS AND THROUGH THEM, EDUCATION, APPRECIATION AND INVOLVEMENT OF THE PUBLIC IN MATTERS CONNECTED WITH THE ARTS AND SCIENCES OF GARDEN LAND; AND 3.1.4 TO ENCOURAGE THE CREATION OF NEW PARKS, GARDENS AND DESIGNED LANDSCAPE .
