Charitable expenditure
Some charities generate all, or a substantial part, of their income from investments which may have been donated to the charity as endowment or set aside by the charity from its own resources in the past. Such investments usually take the form of stocks and shares but may include other assets, such as property, that are capable of generating income and/or capital growth.
In managing their spending and investments charities need to strike a balance between the needs of future and current beneficiaries. They also need to take account of spending commitments that may stretch over a number of future years. To do this, charities will normally adopt an investment strategy designed to generate both income and capital growth. To maximise returns trustees may commit to investment strategies for several years.
Investments can experience large swings in value so trustees may, in a particular year, decide to realise and spend part of their charity’s capital or to invest part of its income.

Long term InvestmentsInvestments are assets held by the charity with the sole aim of generating income which will be used for their charitable purposes such as deposit accounts, shares, rental property and unit trusts.

Charitable objects
THE CHARITY’S OBJECTS ARE, FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES SET OUT IN THE STATEMENT OF BELIEFS:- 3.1 THE PREVENTION AND/OR RELIEF OF POVERTY BY SUCH MEANS AS DETERMINED BY THE TRUSTEES FROM TIME TO TIME INCLUDING (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) PROVIDING ASSISTANCE TO FAMILIES SUFFERING DUE TO ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL CIRCUMSTANCES; 3.2 THE PROMOTION OF EDUCATION BY SUCH MEANS AS DETERMINED BY THE TRUSTEES FROM TIME TO TIME INCLUDING (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LOCAL SCHOOLS TO IMPROVE EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES; 3.3 THE RELIEF OF SICKNESS AND THE PRESERVATION OF HEALTH BY SUCH MEANS AS DETERMINED BY THE TRUSTEES FROM TIME TO TIME INCLUDING (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LOCAL HEALTH AUTHORITIES AND OTHER HEALTH PROVIDERS TO IMPROVE LOCAL HEALTH OUTCOMES; 3.4 THE PROVISION OR ASSISTANCE IN THE PROVISION OF FACILITIES IN THE INTERESTS OF SOCIAL WELFARE FOR RECREATION OR OTHER LEISURE TIME OCCUPATION OF INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE NEED OF SUCH FACILITIES BY REASON OF THEIR YOUTH, AGE, INFIRMITY OR DISABILITY, FINANCIAL HARDSHIP OR SOCIAL CIRCUMSTANCES WITH THE OBJECT OF IMPROVING THEIR CONDITIONS OF LIFE BY SUCH MEANS AS DETERMINED BY THE TRUSTEES FROM TIME TO TIME; AND 3.5 TO FULFIL SUCH OTHER PURPOSES WHICH ARE EXCLUSIVELY CHARITABLE ACCORDING TO THE LAW OF ENGLAND AND WALES AND ARE CONNECTED WITH THE CHARITABLE WORK OF THE CHARITY.
