Gainsborough's House aim is to promote the wider knowledge, apprecaition and enjoyment of the art of Thomas Gainsborough within the context of the eighteenth century and the inspiration of the Suffolk landscape and to preserve and enhance Gainsborough's House and its collections for the benefit of present and future generations.

Charitable expenditure
Some charities generate all, or a substantial part, of their income from investments which may have been donated to the charity as endowment or set aside by the charity from its own resources in the past. Such investments usually take the form of stocks and shares but may include other assets, such as property, that are capable of generating income and/or capital growth.
In managing their spending and investments charities need to strike a balance between the needs of future and current beneficiaries. They also need to take account of spending commitments that may stretch over a number of future years. To do this, charities will normally adopt an investment strategy designed to generate both income and capital growth. To maximise returns trustees may commit to investment strategies for several years.
Investments can experience large swings in value so trustees may, in a particular year, decide to realise and spend part of their charity’s capital or to invest part of its income.

Long term InvestmentsInvestments are assets held by the charity with the sole aim of generating income which will be used for their charitable purposes such as deposit accounts, shares, rental property and unit trusts.

THE OBJECTS OF THE SOCIETY ARE: 1. FOR PRESERVING GAINSBOROUGH’S HOUSE AS A MEMORIAL TO THE PAINTER THOMAS GAINSBOROUGH RA; 2. FOR ADAPTING GAINSBOROUGH’S HOUSE AS AN ARTS CENTRE AND MUSEUM WITH SPACE FOR MEETINGS AND EXHIBITIONS OR OTHERWISE; 3. FOR COLLECTING WORKS BY THOMAS GAINSBOROUGH RA AND ARTEFACTS RELATED TO HIM AND WORKS BY HIS CONTEMPORARIES, EAST ANGLIAN ARTISTS AND OTHERWISE (THE “COLLECTION”); 4. FOR FURTHERING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ARTS AND TO ACHIEVE SOCIAL MORAL AND INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH THE MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION IN THE ARTS BY WAY OF LECTURE CLASSES RECREATION AND ENTERTAINMENTS OR OTHERWISE AS MAY BE FOUND EXPEDIENT BY THE GOVERNORS FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL PERSONS WHO MAY BE INTERESTED WITHOUT DISTINCTION OF RACE SEX POLITICAL RELIGIOUS OR OTHER OPINIONS SUBJECT TO THE PROVISIONS HEREOF.
