Charitable objects
THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE THE PREVENTION OR RELIEF OF POVERTY, SUFFERING, DISTRESS, ILL-HEALTH OR FINANCIAL HARDSHIP AMONGST THE BENEFICIARIES, IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY BY PROVIDING SUCH FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORT TO THOSE INDIVIDUALS IN SUCH WAYS AS THE CHARITY TRUSTEES SEE FIT FROM TIME TO TIME. ['BENEFICIARIES' IS DEFINED IN CLAUSE 31 OF THE CIO CONSTITUTION AS: (A) SERVING POLICE OFFICERS WITH DEVON AND CORNWALL CONSTABULARY AND/OR RETIRED POLICE OFFICERS FROM DEVON AND CORNWALL CONSTABULARY (EACH BEING REFERRED TO IN THIS CONSTITUTION AS AN ÔOFFICERÖ); (B) ANY SPOUSE, OR CIVIL PARTNER (AS SUCH TERM IS DEFINED IN SECTION 350 OF THE CHARITIES ACT 2011) OF AN OFFICER WHERE IN THE OPINION OF THE CHARITY TRUSTEES SUCH SPOUSE OR CIVIL PARTNER IS STILL LIVING WITH THE OFFICER; (C) ANY WIDOW OR WIDOWER OF AN OFFICER WHERE IN THE OPINION OF THE CHARITY TRUSTEES THE WIDOW OR WIDOWER WAS STILL LIVING WITH THE OFFICER AT THE TIME OF THE OFFICERÆS DEATH; (D) ANY OTHER PERSON WHO IN THE OPINION OF THE CHARITY TRUSTEES WAS WHOLLY OR PARTLY DEPENDANT OF AN OFFICER AT THE DATE OF HIS OR HER DEATH; (E) SUCH OTHER CATEGORIES OF PERSONS WHICH THE CHARITY TRUSTEES SHALL FROM TIME TO TIME DETERMINE.]
