TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC IN THE LIFE, WORKS AND TIMES OF DR SAMUEL JOHNSON (1709-1784) BY ANY MEANS THE CHARITY TRUSTEES SEE FIT, INCLUDING: • ENCOURAGING INTEREST IN, AND STUDY OF, THE WRITINGS, LIFE AND TIMES OF SAMUEL JOHNSON; • SUPPORTING THE SAMUEL JOHNSON BIRTHPLACE MUSEUM IN THE CITY OF LICHFIELD BY HELPING TO MAINTAIN AND ENHANCE ITS CONTENTS, AND BY WORKING WITH THE JOHNSON BIRTHPLACE ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF LICHFIELD CITY COUNCIL; • ASSISTING IN PRESERVING PHYSICAL MEMORIALS OF JOHNSON AND HIS CONTEMPORARIES, INCLUDING BOOKS, MANUSCRIPTS, ARTEFACTS, BUILDINGS, STATUES AND JOHNSON'S WILLOW; • PARTICIPATING IN ANNUAL COMMEMORATIONS OF JOHNSON'S BIRTHDAY; • PROMOTING KNOWLEDGE OF EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY HISTORY IN GENERAL.
