The charity exists to offer assistance to individuals or groups who require first aid, rescue or removal from underground environments in Northern England and the Isle of Man. The charity is also able to offer educational facilities to individuals or groups on the dangers of the underground environment (in particular disused mines) in Northern England and the Isle of Man.

Objects: The objects of the Charity shall be: a) The protection of life by the provision and maintenance of a rescue service for persons or animals in need of help, particularly in old mine and quarry workings in Cumbria, and by the assistance of other agencies in their provision of emergency services b) The advancement of the education of the public in the prevention of accidents
