Amicus assists those accused of or sentenced for capital murder in the United States. It provides training and information for those in the UK that wish to assist in the representation of such individuals, and provides placements and grants for those wishing to travel to the US to carry out this work on a voluntary basis. A journal of death penalty law is also regularly published by Amicus.

AND WHO FOR REASON OF THEIR POVERTY ARE IN NEED OF LEGAL OR OTHER ASSISTANCE TO ENABLE THE PRESERVATION OF THEIR RIGHTS OF APPEAL AND TO ENSURE THAT THEIR IMPRISONMENT AND SENTENCE ARE ADMINISTERED AS IS POSSIBLE HUMANLY.TO ADVANCE EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN THE FIELD OF LEGAL REPRESENTATION FOR THOSE PERSONS ON DEATH ROW IN ANY STATE OF THE U.S.A.
