The Society seeks to promote the advancement of the sciences of medicine, surgery, and those branches of science connected therewith. It does this through an academic programme of lectures, symposia and awarding bursaries and financial assistance to medical students and the award of prizes for significant contributions to medicine.

Charitable objects
1. THE MEDICAL SOCIETY OF LONDON, FOUNDED IN 1773 AND BASED AT 11 CHANDOS STREET, LONDON, HAS FOR ITS OBJECT THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE SCIENCES OF MEDICINE, SURGERY AND THOSE BRANCHES OF SCIENCE CONNECTED THEREWITH. 2. THE SOCIETY SHALL CONSIST OF FELLOWS, VISITING FELLOWS, HONORARY FELLOWS AND LIFE FELLOWS. 3. THE SOCIETY SHALL HAVE A COUNCIL RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAY TO DAY OPERATION OF THE SOCIETY WHO SHALL IN TURN APPOINT 5 ORDINARY TRUSTEES RESPONSIBLE FOR THE GOVERNANCE OF THE SOCIETY.
