Activities - how the charity spends its money
The original purpose of the charity was to house 18 poor, elderly woman of Hay-on-Wye or the surrounding district. During 1973/74 extensive alterations were made to provide more modern accommodation for 12 women. Since 2002, with the conversion of a flat formerly used as warden accommodation, 13 women have been accommodated.

Charitable objects
FOR THE EXTRAORIDANARY REPAIR, IMPROVEMENT OR REBUILDING OF THE ALMSHOUSES FOR POOR WIDOWS OR SPINSTERS WHO ARE NOT LESS THAN SIXTY YEARS OF AGE, OF GOOD CHARACRER AND MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND OR THE CHURCH IN WALES. FOUR OF THE ALMSPEOPLE SHALL HAVE RESIDED FOR AT LEAST THREE YERS IN THE ANCIENT PARISH OF HAY OR SOME OTHER PLACE IN THE COUNTY OF BRECONSHIRE, WHITLST EIGHT SHALL HAVE RESIDED IN ONE OF THE COUNTIES OF BRECKNOCK, RADNOR OR HEREFORD FOR THE SAME PERIOD OF TIME. SUBJECT TO THE ABOVE, FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE ALMSPEOPLE IN ANY MANNER AS THE TRUSTEES THINK FIT FROM TIME TO TIME.
