Charitable objects
TO RELIEVE EITHER GENERALLY OR INDIVIDUALLY PERSONS RESIDENT IN THE AREA OF THE FORMER BOROUGH OF MAIDSTONE AS CONSTITUTED IMMEDIATELY BEFORE 1 APRIL 1974 WHO ARE IN CONDITIONS OF NEED, HARDSHIP OR DISTRESS BY MAKING GRANTS OF MONEY OR PROVIDING OR PAYING FOR ITEMS, SERVICES OR FACILITIES CALCULATED TO REDUCE THE NEED, HARDSHIP OR DISTRESS OF SUCH PERSONS: PROVIDED THAT IN APPLYING A SUM EQUAL TO TWO-THIRDS OF THE CLEAR YEARLY INCOME OF THE CHARITY, PREFERENCE SHALL BE GIVEN TO PERSONS QUALIFIED AS AFORESAID WHO ARE NOT LESS THAN 60 YEARS OF AGE.
