i) to inform the public of the history of Hitchin and the surrounding district; ii) to undertake research into the origins and development of buildings, people, organisations, crafts, trades, and other aspects of historical interest; iii) to publish the results of such research; iv) to inform members and others of matters likely to impact the historic character of the town.
