TO FOSTER AND PROMOTE THE MAINTENANCE, IMPROVEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT OF ARTISTIC TASTE AND THE KNOWLEDGE, UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATION OF THE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE AND OF HIS CONTEMPORARIES AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS CONTRIBUTING TO AND INFLUENCED BY HIS WORKS OR OF HIS CONTEMPORARIES FOR THE EDUCATIONAL BENEFIT OF THE INHABITANTS OF THE SOUTH WEST OF ENGLAND (BEING THAT AREA OF ENGLAND COMPRISING THE COUNTIES OF CORNWALL, DEVON, SOMERSET, AVON, DORSET AND WILTSHIRE).
