TO ENCOURAGE AND FACILITATE THE TEACHING OF THE CHINESE LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE AT THE UNIVERSITIES OF THE UNITED KINGDOM BY THE ENDOWMENT OF PROFESSORSHIPS AND LECTURERSHIPS, OR OTHERWISE; 4. THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF CLOSER INTELLECTUAL CO-OPERATION AND TO PROMOTE CULTURAL RELATIONS BETWEEN CHINA AND THE UNITED KINGDOM.
