TO RELIEVE IN CASES OF NEED, HARDSHIP OR DISTRESS PERSONS WHO ARE CHARGED WITH CRIMINAL OFFENCES OR THEIR SPOUSES, WIDOWS, WIDOWERS OR DEPENDANTS (EXCLUDING THAT CAUSED BY THE IMPOSITION OF FINES ETC). 2. TO RELIEVE THE SUFFERING OF ANIMALS THAT ARE IN NEED OF CARE AND ATTENTION, INCLUDING THE PROVISION OR MAINTENANCE OF FACILITIES FOR THE RECEPTION AND CARE OF UNWANTED ANIMALS OR THE TREATMENT OR SICK OR ILL-TREATED ANIMALS.
