TO FOSTER AND PROMOTE THE MAINTENANCE, IMPROVEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT OF ARTISTIC TASTE AND THE KNOWLEDGE, UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATION OF THE ARTS AMONG THE INHABITANTS OF THE COUNTY OF TYNE AND WEAR AND IN PARTICULAR AMONG THE INHABITANTS OF THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH OF NORTH TYNESIDE AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE AFORESAID PERSONS FACILITIES FOR RECREATION AND OTHER LEISURE TIME OCCUPATION WITH A VIEW TO IMPROVING THEIR CONDITION OF LIFE.
