TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT SO AS TO LIMIT THE GENERALITY OF THE FOREGOING: (1) THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION IN AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE HISTORY, CULTURE AND TRADITIONS OF ENGLAND ("ENGLISH STUDIES") (2) THE PROMOTION, ORGANISATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF RESEARCH INTO THE HISTORY, CULTURE, INSTITUTIONS AND TRADITIONS OF ENGLAND WITH THE PUBLICATION OF ANY USEFUL RESULTS OF SUCH RESEARCH.
