Charitable objects
FOR THE USE AND BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC TO RESTORE PRESERVE MAINTAIN IN GOOD ORDER AND IMPROVE AND MAKE FULLY NAVIGABLE THE CANAL (HEREINAFTER THE "CANAL") MEANING THAT PART OF THE UNDERTAKING OF BRITISH WATERWAYS WHICH IMMEDIATELY BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF JANUARY 1948 WAS COMPRISED IN (A) THE UNDERTAKINGS OF THE COMPANY OF PROPRIETORS OF THE STOURBRIDGE NAVIGATION AND (B) THE STOURBRIDGE EXTENSION CANAL UNDERTAKING OF THE GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY COMPANY AND ANY BUILDING STRUCTURE OR CANAL FURNITURE ASSOCIATED WITH OR FORMING PART OF THE CANAL LYING WITHIN A CONSERVATION AREA AS WAS DESIGNATED WHEN THE STOURBRIDGE NAVIGATION TRUST WAS ESTABLISHED BY THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF DUDLEY OR THE THEN COUNTY COUNCIL OF WEST MIDLANDS UNDER SECTION S277 OF THE TOWN AND COUNTRY PLANNING ACT 1971 AND ENCOMPASSING ANY PART THEREOF OR WHICH IS A BUILDING (AS DEFINED IN SECTION 290 OF THE SAID ACT OF 1971) LISTED BY THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT UNDER SECTION 54 OF THE SAID ACT OF 1971 AS A BUILDING OF SPECIAL ARCHITECTURAL OR HISTORIC INTEREST OR AN ANCIENT MONUMENT AS DEFINED BY SECTION 61 OF THE ANCIENT MONUMENTS AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL AREAS ACT 1979 AND TO TAKE ALL NECESSARY STEPS TO PROMOTE THE FULLEST USE OF THE CANAL BY ALL FORMS OF WATERBORNE TRAFFIC AND ALL FORMS OF WATER RELATED RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES AND WITHOUT PREJUDICE TO THE FOREGOING TO PROMOTE SUCH CHARITABLE PURPOSES AS AFORESAID WITH THE INLAND WATERWAY IN THE UNITED KINGDOM.
