Charitable expenditure
Some charities generate all, or a substantial part, of their income from investments which may have been donated to the charity as endowment or set aside by the charity from its own resources in the past. Such investments usually take the form of stocks and shares but may include other assets, such as property, that are capable of generating income and/or capital growth.
In managing their spending and investments charities need to strike a balance between the needs of future and current beneficiaries. They also need to take account of spending commitments that may stretch over a number of future years. To do this, charities will normally adopt an investment strategy designed to generate both income and capital growth. To maximise returns trustees may commit to investment strategies for several years.
Investments can experience large swings in value so trustees may, in a particular year, decide to realise and spend part of their charity’s capital or to invest part of its income.

Long term InvestmentsInvestments are assets held by the charity with the sole aim of generating income which will be used for their charitable purposes such as deposit accounts, shares, rental property and unit trusts.

Charitable objects
1. TO PROVIDE SERVICES FOR THE PURPOSES OF PALLIATIVE CARE. 2. TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN A HOSPICE SERVICE WITHIN THE AREA FOR THE TIME BEING COVERED BY THE LINCOLNSHIRE SOUTH WEST PRIMARY CARE TRUST OR SUCH OTHER AREA AS THE DIRECTORS MAY RESOLVE TO BE THE AREA OF BENEFIT (EITHER OF SUCH AREAS AS APPLICABLE BEING "THE AREA OF BENEFIT") FOR THE RECEPTION AND CARE OF PERSONS OF EITHER SEX (WITHOUT REGARD TO RACE OR CREED) WHO ARE SUFFERING FROM ANY CHRONIC OR TERMINAL ILLNESS REQUIRING PALLIATIVE CARE, AND PROVIDE MEDICAL OR OTHER TREATMENT AND ATTENTION FOR SUCH PERSONS AS AFORESAID IN THEIR OWN HOMES. 3. TO PROVIDE SUPPORT, ENCOURAGEMENT AND RELIEF FOR PERSONS WHO CARE FOR PERSONS SUFFERING FROM ANY CHRONIC OR TERMINAL ILLNESS IN THEIR OWN HOMES IN THE AREA OF BENEFIT, INCLUDING THE PROVISION OF A "DAY CARE CENTRE", INCLUDING PROVISIONS TO RELIEVE SUCH CARERS FROM DUTY, SO THAT THE SAID CARERS MAY ENJOY SOME REST AND RELAXATION. 4. TO CONDUCT, PROMOTE OR ENCOURAGE RESEARCH INTO THE CARE AND TREATMENT OF PERSONS SUFFERING FROM ANY CHRONIC OR TERMINAL ILLNESS AND PARTICULARLY INTO THE CARE AND TREATMENT OF PERSONS SUFFERING FROM CANCER; 5. TO PROMOTE OR ENCOURAGE OR ASSIST IN THE TEACHING OF, OR TRAINING IN, PALLIATIVE CARE PRACTICES TO DOCTORS, NURSES, PHYSIOTHERAPISTS AND OTHER PERSONS ENGAGED IN ANY BRANCH OF MEDICINE, SURGERY, NURSING OR ALLIED SERVICES, AND IN THE TEACHING OF, OR TRAINING IN, PALLIATIVE CARE TO STUDENTS IN ANY BRANCH OF MEDICINE, SURGERY, NURSING OR ALLIED SERVICES. 6. TO PROVIDE OR ASSIST OR ENCOURAGE THE PROVISION OF SPIRITUAL HELP AND GUIDANCE FOR ANY PERSONS SUFFERING FROM ANY CHRONIC OR TERMINAL ILLNESS AND FOR THOSE PERSONS WHO PROVIDE CARE TO SUCH PERSONS IN THE AREA OF BENEFIT.
