The Betjeman Poetry Prize is a charity in the education sector working with partners across the United Kingdom to promote literacy, foster creativity and provide a platform for new voices from the next generation. Our annual competition seeks to encourage children aged 10-13 to explore the world they see around them through rhythm and language.

TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM AND THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND THROUGH THE PROVISION OF POETRY WRITING ACTIVITIES IN SCHOOL-BASED AND COMMUNITY-BASED SETTINGS. TO FOSTER AND ENCOURAGE AN ENJOYMENT OF POETRY AND READING AT AN EARLY AGE AND TO ENHANCE CHILDREN'S SELF-ESTEEM THROUGH LITERACY. TO ADVANCE LIFE CHANCES OF YOUNG PEOPLE THROUGH IMPROVED LITERACY.
