1. THE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF CONSUMPTION IN ASHTON AND DISTRICT 2. TO RELIEVE AS FAR AS POSSIBLE THE DISTRESS AND WANT CAUSED BY THE DISEASE 3. TO ASSIST IN THE PREVENTION OF THE DISEASE BY HELPING TO ISOLATE PATIENTS BY EDUCATING PATIENTS, THEIR RELATIVES, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC AS TO THE NATURE OF THE DISEASE, AND THE METHODS THAT SHOULD BE USED TO PREVENT INFECTION; ALSO BY ASSISTING PATIENTS WHO, ALTHOUGH THEY ARE NOT ACTUALLY SUFFERING FROM TUBERCULOSIS, ARE LIKELY SUBJECTS FOR THE DISEASE
