TO RELIEVE THE DISTRESS AND SUFFERING EXPERIENCED BY WOMEN WHO HAVE BEEN GRAVELY OR PERSISTENTLY MALTREATED BY THEIR HUSBANDS OR BY THE FATHERS OF THEIR CHILDREN AND ARE IN NECESSITOUS CIRCUMSTANCES AND THEIR CHILDREN IN LIKE CIRCUMSTANCES.
