THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE TO PROMOTE, MAINTAIN, IMPROVE AND ADVANCE PUBLIC EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN THE FIELDS OF DIGITAL FABRICATION AND ITS APPLICATIONS IN PARTICULAR BY ESTABLISHNG AND SUPPORTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF DIGITAL FABRICATION LABORATORIES (FAB LABS) IN THE UK AND ELSEWHERE. FAB LABS ARE ORGANISATIONS PROVIDING ACCESS TO DIGITAL FABRICATION TOOLS AS SET OUT IN THE FAB LAB CHARTER.
