Charitable objects
2. The objects of the Charity are, for the public benefit: 2.1 the advancement of science through the support of research in the areas of particular interest to Professor Stephen Hawking (including, without limitation, cosmology, astrophysics, fundamental particle physics and other emerging technological and scientific areas of study), by making grants to organisations and individuals conducting, inter alia, post graduate research, workshops, research programmes and special projects; 2.2 the advancement of health through the support of research into motor neuron disease / amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (“MND” and “ALS” respectively) and conditions relating to neurodegeneration and astrophy, treatment for sufferers, and potential cures, by making grants to organisations and individuals conducting such research; 2.3 the relief of those in need by reason of ill-health and disability, specifically those suffering from MND/ALS, by supporting care in two ways: 2.3.1 the support of care-related research, for example care technology and methods, by making grants to individuals and organisations engaged in such research; 2.3.2 the support of people with MND/ALS (and their families, carers and dependants) who need care and who might not otherwise have the resources, by making grants to those individuals in need, including but not limited to providing equipment and assistance to enable individuals to carry out academic and recreational activities; and 2.4 the advancement of education of the public, especially (but not limited to) school and university students in the subject of science (in particular, cosmology, astrophysics, fundamental particle physics and other emerging technological and scientific areas of study).
