Charitable objects
3. The promotion of the benefit of the inhabitants of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, nationality, race or of political, religious or other opinions, by associating together the said inhabitants and the statutory authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants 4. The promotion of community capacity building to develop the capacity and skills of the members of the socially and economically disadvantaged communities of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan in such a way that they are better able to identify and help meet their own needs and participate more fully in society 5. The promotion of equality and diversity for the public benefit by: (a) the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of race, gender, disability , sexual orientation or religion; (b) advancing education and raising awareness in equality and diversity; (c) promoting activities to foster understanding between people from diverse backgrounds; (d) conducting or commissioning research on equality and diversity issues and publishing the results to the public; (e) cultivating a sentiment in favour of equality and diversity. 6. The promotion of sustainable development [Sustainable development means “development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”] 7. The relief of poverty [“To prevent or relieve poverty by awarding a ‘fair trade mark’ to products, the sale of which relieves the poverty of producers by ensuring they receive at least a fair price for their goods and advising such producers of the best ways in which to engage in the trading process.”] 8. The promotion of social inclusion [“The promotion of social inclusion for the public benefit amongst people between the ages of 16 to 60 who are socially excluded by providing them with an opportunity to build capacity by establishing and growing a business to relieve the needs of those people and assist them to integrate into society.”] 9. The Charity shall be non-party in politics and non-sectarian in religion.
