Charitable objects
THE OBJECT OF THE CIO IS THE PROMOTION OF SOCIAL INCLUSION AMONG MEMBERS OF THE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING COMMUNITY LIVING IN BEDFORD AND THE SURROUNDING AREA WHO ARE SOCIALLY EXCLUDED FROM SOCIETY, OR PARTS OF SOCIETY, AS A RESULT OF BEING DEAF OR HARD OF HEARING BY: 1. RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS OF THE ISSUES AFFECTING DEAF PEOPLE, BOTH GENERALLY AND IN RELATION TO THEIR SOCIAL EXCLUSION; 2. CAMPAIGNING FOR THE PROMOTION OF BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE TO BE ON AN EQUAL FOOTING TO SPOKEN AND WRITTEN ENGLISH; AND 3. PROVIDING RECREATIONAL FACILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR DEAF PEOPLE TO INTEGRATE WITH THE HEARING COMMUNITY.
