THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE EITHER ON ITS OWN OR IN CONJUNCTION WITH OTHERS ARE TO: I) TO PRESERVE FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PEOPLE OF THE ROSSENDALE VALLEY IN LANCASHIRE AND THE NATION AT LARGE WHATEVER OF THE ENGLISH HISTORICAL, ARCHITECTURAL, CONSTRUCTIONAL AND NATURAL OR SCIENTIFIC HERITAGE MAY EXIST IN OR NEAR TO THE AFORESAID AREA (IN THE FORM OF BUILDINGS OF PARTICULAR BEAUTY OR HISTORICAL, ARCHITECTURAL OR CONSTRUCTIONAL INTEREST OR ANCIENT MONUMENTS AND OTHERWISE AS SHALL BE CONSISTENT WITH THESE OBJECTS). II) ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC IN THE SAID HERITAGE AND TO UNDERTAKE SUCH OTHER CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES AS MAY BENEFIT THE PEOPLE OF OR VISITORS TO THE SAID AREA.
