To further the saving of lives, whether by prevention or rescue, for the public benefit by promoting water safety in all aspects of water activities. To assist members by offering support in undertaking operational patrol, rescue and competitive lifesaving activities, providing opportunities to acquire, maintain and improve lifeguarding and lifesaving skills, qualifications and physical fitness.

Charitable objects
THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE: TO FURTHER THE SAVING OF LIVES, WHETHER BY PREVENTION OR RESCUE, FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT, IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY: 3.1 BY PROMOTING WATER SAFETY PRACTICES IN ALL ASPECTS OF WATER ACTIVITIES. 3.2 TO PROVIDE A VOLUNTARY LIFEGUARD SERVICE IN BOURNEMOUTH, DORSET. 3.3 TO PROVIDE WATER SAFETY COVER AT OTHER VENUES AS AND WHEN REQUESTED AND PRACTICABLE. 3.4 TO ASSIST MEMBERS, BY OFFERING SUPPORT, INCLUDING FINANCIALLY WHERE APPROPRIATE, IN UNDERTAKING OPERATIONAL, PATROL, RESCUE AND COMPETITIVE LIFESAVING ACTIVITIES AND THE ADVANCEMENT OF LIFEGUARDING AND LIFESAVING BY PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ACQUIRING, MAINTAINING AND IMPROVING APPROPRIATE SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL FITNESS. NOTHING IN THIS CONSTITUTION SHALL AUTHORISE AN APPLICATION OF THE PROPERTY OF THE CIO FOR THE PURPOSES WHICH ARE NOT CHARITABLE IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 7 OF THE CHARITIES AND TRUSTEE INVESTMENT (SCOTLAND) ACT 2005 AND SECTION 2 OF THE CHARITIES ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 2008.
