Charitable objects
THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT: 1) THE PROVISION OF SOCIAL HOUSING IN THE FORM OF ALMSHOUSE ACCOMMODATION IN THE PROPERTIES KNOWN AS THE KENDAL ALMSHOUSES FOR THE BENEFIT OF PERSONS WHO ARE IN NEED OR FINANCIAL HARDSHIP AND WHO ARE INHABITANTS OF OR LIVE NEAR THE AREAS COMPRISING A) THE TOWN OF KENDAL B) THE PARISHES OF HELSINGTON, NATLAND, NEW HUTTON, PATTON, SCALTHWAITERIGG, SKELSMERGH, STRICKLAND KETEL, STRICKLAND ROGER AND UNDERBARROW AND BRADLEYFIELD; AND C) IN NO SUITABLE APPLICATIONS ARE RECEIVED FROM INHABITANTS OF THE FOREGOING AREAS (A) OR (B), THE AREA OF SOUTH LAKELAND DISTRICT COUNCIL; AND D) IF NO SUITABLE APPLICATIONS ARE RECEIVED FROM INHABITANTS OF THE FOREGOING AREAS (A), (B) OR (C), THE AREA OF THE BOROUGH OF BARROW-IN-FURNESS; ALL WHICH AREAS (S) TO (D) INCLUSIVE ARE IN THE COUNTY OF CUMBRIA AND ARE TOGETHER CALLED "THE AREA OF BENEFIT", WITH PREFERENCE BEING GIVEN IN ALL AREAS TO QUALIFIED PERSONS WHO ARE AGED 50 YEARS OR OVER. 2) SUCH CHARITABLE PURPOSES FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE RESIDENTS IN THE ALMSHOUSES OF THE CIO OR ANY OF THEM AND IN SUCH MANNER AS THE CHARITY TRUSTEES THINK FIT FROM TIME TO TIME.
