THE OBJECT OF THE CIO IS TO ADVANCE THE RELIEF OF SICKNESS AND THE PRESERVATION OF HEALTH PRIMARILY AMONG PEOPLE AFFECTED BY HUMANITARIAN CRISES AND RESIDING IN EAST, WEST AND CENTRAL AFRICA BY PROVIDING QUALITY MEDICAL ASSISTANCE AND THROUGH UNDERTAKING AND SUPPORTING RESEARCH INTO FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO SICKNESS AND THE MOST APPROPRIATE WAYS TO MITIGATE THESE AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE PRESERVATION OF HEALTH. TO DO SO, THE CIO POOLS THE EXPERTISE OF INTERNATIONAL AID WORKERS, NATIONAL MEDICAL ORGANISATIONS AND GLOBAL RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS.
