Activities - how the charity spends its money
The Charity makes available facilities for the teaching and practice of Buddhism in Her Majesty's Prisons and other places of lawful detention or custody. It is the Religious Advisory Service for Buddhism to HMPPS and it provides licensed and suitably vetted Buddhist chaplains who regularly attend most of the prisons across England and Wales.

Charitable objects
THE OBJECT OF THE CIO IS, FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT, TO MAKE AVAILABLE FACILITIES FOR THE TEACHING AND PRACTICE OF BUDDHISM IN HER MAJESTY'S PRISONS AND OTHER PLACES OF LAWFUL DETENTION OR CUSTODY, SPECIFICALLY:- 4.1. TO RECRUIT AND ADVISE A TEAM OF BUDDHIST VISITING CHAPLAINS TO BE AVAILABLE AS SOON AS THERE IS A CALL FOR THEIR SERVICES; 4.2. TO ACT IN AN ADVISORY CAPACITY, AND TO LIAISE WITH THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE CHAPLAINCY OFFICIALS, WITH INDIVIDUAL CHAPLAINS WITHIN HER MAJESTY'S PRISONS AND WITH ANY OTHER RELEVANT BODIES OR OFFICIALS; 4.3. TO PROVIDE AN AFTERCARE AND ADVISORY SERVICE FOR PRISONERS AFTER RELEASE. NOTHING IN THIS CONSTITUTION SHALL AUTHORISE AN APPLICATION OF THE PROPERTY OF THE CIO FOR PURPOSES WHICH ARE NOT CHARITABLE IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 7 OF THE CHARITIES AND TRUSTEE INVESTMENT (SCOTLAND) ACT 2005 OR SECTION 2 OF THE CHARITIES ACT NORTHERN IRELAND) 2008.
