Activities - how the charity spends its money
deaf awareness: NE runs a series of sessions and activities from the Linskill Centre, North Shields, to help raise awareness of issues impacting on deaf and hard of hearing people. These session include sign language, lipreading, tinnitus support, deaf awareness training and deaf sports. Hearing induction loops, speech to text and BSL/English interpreters are used as appropriate.

1. THE RELIEF OF PERSONS WHO ARE DEAF OR HARD OF HEARING IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY IN THE NORTH EAST OF ENGLAND BY THE PROVISION OF SERVICES, INFORMATION, SUPPORT, ADVICE, EDUCATION AND FACILITIES IN THE INTERESTS OF SOCIAL WELFARE AND OTHER LEISURE-TIME OCCUPATION WITH THE OBJECT OF IMPROVING THE CONDITIONS OF LIFE OF SUCH PEOPLE. 2. THE ADVANCEMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO RAISING AWARENESS OF ISSUES OF DEAFNESS TO THE WIDER PUBLIC NOTE: FOR THE PURPOSES ALL OBJECTS THE WORD ‘DEAF’ COMPRISES ALL PEOPLE WHO ARE DEAF, DEAFENED, HARD OF HEARING, DEAF-DISABLED OR CULTURALLY DEAF AND THOSE PEOPLE WHO REGARD THEMSELVES AS HEARING IMPAIRED OR OF HAVING A HEARING LOSS.
