Charitable objects
ARTICLE 3. THE OBJECTS FOR WHICH THE CHARITY IS ESTABLISHED (THE 'OBJECTS') ARE THE ADVANCEMENT OF SUCH EXCLUSIVELY CHARITABLE PURPOSES AS THE TRUSTEES SHALL DETERMINE AND IN PARTICULAR TO PROMOTE THE VOLUNTARY SECTOR FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT BY SUPPORTING AND PROMOTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIAL INVESTMENT FOR THESE PURPOSES BY THE FOLLOWING MEANS: (A) EDUCATING GOVERNMENTS, GOVERNMENTAL AND OTHER NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANISATIONS OR AGENCIES, CHARITABLE ORGANISATIONS, COMMERCIAL ORGANISATIONS, INDIVIDUALS AND OTHERS IN THE PRACTICE OF AND THE BENEFITS ATTAINABLE FROM THE PRACTICE OF SOCIAL INVESTMENT; (B) THE PROVISION OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND OTHER ASSISTANCE (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE) TO ORGANISATIONS WHO BECOME MEMBERS OR AFFILIATED ORGANISATIONS OF THE CHARITY AND WHOSE AIM IS TO PRACTICE OR PROMOTE SOCIAL INVESTMENT; (C) THE PROVISION OF DIRECT OR INDIRECT SUPPORT OR ASSISTANCE TO TARGET ORGANISATIONS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PRINCIPLES OF SOCIAL INVESTMENT; AND (D) FACILITATING THE CREATION AND GROWTH OF, AND PARTNERING WITH, OTHER CHARITABLE ORGANISATIONS ESTABLISHED TO ADVANCE OBJECTS CONSISTENT WITH THOSE LISTED IN PARAGRAPHS (A) TO (C) ABOVE, IN EACH CASE, TO THE EXTENT THAT SUCH ORGANISATIONS COMPLY WITH ALL CHARITIES LEGISLATION APPLICABLE TO THEM. THE FOLLOWING DEFINITIONS SHALL APPLY WITH RESPECT TO THIS ARTICLE 3: 'VOLUNTARY SECTOR' MEANS CHARITIES AND VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS. 'CHARITIES' ARE ORGANISATIONS WHICH ARE ESTABLISHED FOR EXCLUSIVELY CHARITABLE PURPOSES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAW OF ENGLAND AND WALES. 'VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS' ARE INDEPENDENT ORGANISATIONS WHICH ARE ESTABLISHED FOR PURPOSES THAT ADD VALUE TO THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE, OR TO A SIGNIFICANT SECTION OF THE COMMUNITY, AND WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED BY THEIR CONSTITUTION TO MAKE A PROFIT FOR PRIVATE DISTRIBUTION. VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS DO NOT INCLUDED LOCAL GOVERNMENT OR OTHER STATUTORY AUTHORITIES. 'SOCIAL INVESTMENT' MEANS THE APPLICATION OF THE PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF LONG TERM INVESTMENT AND VENTURE CAPITAL MODELS TO TARGET ORGANISATIONS FOR THE PURPOSE OF GENERATING SOCIAL IMPACT, BY, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING MEANS: (I) THE PROVISION OF FINANCING THROUGH ANY APPROPRIATE FORM TO TARGET ORGANISATIONS; (II) THE PAYMENT OF GRANTS OR OTHER FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO TARGET ORGANISATIONS; (III) THE PROVISION OF ADVICE TO TARGET ORGANISATIONS TO ASSIST THEM TO ORGANISE AND STRUCTURE THEMSELVES MORE EFFICIENTLY TO ALLOW THEM TO USE AND TO APPLY THE RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO THEM FOR THEIR PURPOSES AS EFFECTIVELY AS POSSIBLE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY RESOURCES MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE PROVISION OF FUNDS UNDER (I) AND (II) ABOVE; AND (IV) THE PROVISION OF SUPPORT AND/OR TRAINING TO TARGET ORGANISATIONS IN SUCH OTHER FORMS AS MAY FROM TIME TO TIME BE APPROPRIATE. 'TARGET ORGANISATIONS' MEANS ORGANISATIONS WHICH ARE EITHER CHARITIES OR VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS.
