THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE: 1) THE RELIEF AND ASSISTANCE OF PEOPLE IN ANY PART OF THE WORLD WHO ARE THE VICTIMS OF CONFLICT OR NATURAL DISASTER, TROUBLE, OR CATASTROPHE AND, THROUGH THE PROVISION OF TRAINING AND GUIDANCE, DEVELOP THE CAPACITY AND SKILLS TO MITIGATE THE EFFECTS OF SUCH EVENTS. 2) TO PROMOTE THE SAFETY OF THE PUBLIC AGAINST DISASTERS INVOLVING MULTIPLE DEATHS OR INJURY OR EXTENSIVE DESTRUCTION OF BUILDINGS OR PROPERTY, WHERE SUCH DISASTERS OCCUR IN PUBLIC PLACES AND WHETHER BY LAND, WATER OR AIR, AND IN FURTHERANCE OF THIS PURPOSE TO DEVISE, RESEARCH, CARRY OUT, MAKE KNOWN, DISSEMINATE, ADVOCATE, EXPLAIN AND ADVANCE PRINCIPLES AND METHODS FOR SECURING THE PREVENTION OF AND PROTECTION AGAINST ACCIDENTS OF ALL KINDS LIKELY TO GIVE RISE TO SUCH DISASTERS.
