Charitable objects
3. Objects The objects of the CIO ("the Objects") are: (1) the promotion of the arts for the benefit of the public in particular, but not limited to, the promotion of contemporary art originating from Asia by: (a) facilitating, or assisting in the facilitation of, the curation and exhibition of contemporary art, globally, with a focus in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland ("the UK"), Asia and the United States of America (“the US”); and (b) providing, or assisting in the provision of, international exchange programmes for curators of contemporary art and contemporary artists to museums, galleries and other institutions, globally, with a focus in the UK, Asia and the US; and (2) the advancement of education of the public in the arts in particular, but not limited to, the advancement of education in contemporary art originating from Asia by: (a) providing, or assisting in the provision of, exhibitions, lectures and other public programme events; (b) creating, or assisting in the creation of, fellowship programmes at museums, galleries and other institutions, globally, with a focus in the UK, Asia and the US; and (c) providing, or assisting in the provision of, a means by which curators, artists and fellows can disseminate the meaningful outcomes of exhibitions, exchange programmes and/or fellowship programmes in which they have participated. In these Objects "contemporary art" means art of the present day and relatively recent past of an innovatory or avant-garde nature. Nothing in this constitution shall authorise an application of the property of the CIO for the purposes which are not charitable in accordance with section 7 of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and section 2 of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.
